It isn't being developed - i got it some years ago and even back then the current (commercial) version had to be crippled due to some legal wrangle with Real Player - so I had to look around for the older version that still captures most streams

Wow, can you stil get Streambox ? I thought the project folded or went
commercial, then all the providers of streaming locked down their
boxen to make it hard to record using ?
I know the last time I tried a few years ago, NASA had done something
to their streams which made streambox repeatedly loop the request but
never start the stream / download.

Not necessarily deliberately but it is a protected stream

I actually called the source (Hawthorne Race Course) and they told me the
replays were free to view and that they had no objection to my recording
the
video. I also checked the properties for the video and it clearly states
there are no restrictions on the media. I wouldn't try to record it if I
thought it was wrong to do so. On the other hand, I really am not sure
what I
am doing so maybe there is no way to record it if I am using Media Player.
I guess the end result is that I still do not know if WMP 11 will record a
streaming video even if the video has no restriction.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

I think this is a protected stream - I don't think you'll find any
