I'll try to follow the regedit procedure, but in the meantime, I wanted
to comment on the replies to this inquiry. Careful with the
assumptions, guys.
1. I have no intention of ever buying music online. Certain websites
contain samples I want to hear to know what a band is like. They
automatically invoke WMP, and it automatically contains URGE. What's
"better" than owning the CDs? Seeing the group live.
Exactly. Online stores are pretty much univerally duds offering low
quality rips and unreasonable restrictions on playback.
2. One cannot "easily turn off URGE." It can't install itself, so I
can't turn it off. I don't want it, would like to dump it, but can't.
So if you go to Control Panel -> Add / Remove Programs, could you
explain if it's listed there or not ? It should be...
3. WMP help gave me extensive instructions for uninstall/reinstall
which I wasted a bunch of time on--didn't work.
4. The URGE people advised some trials also, and specifically told me
it was a Windows XP problem.
It's pretty common for "support" for online services to be uniformly
crap, so I'm not really that surprised. Unhelpful help seems quite
common for especially wal-mart, OD2 based stores and the now defunct
MSN music. A lot of these stores are folding so I suppose that's some
blessing.
So if you don't have any help, please don't just lecture us on our
online life style.
I have no idea what you just said, or why you're so grouchy there ;-)
Cheers - Neil
