RE: cd burning

I now have exactly the same problems when trying to burn to cd audio with
wmp11, ie finalizes while burning the 1st tune. Tried burning in realplayer
with the same coaster producing results! There might be a connection with
nero and their burning rights but not sure what to try next.

Any re appreciated.

I was retracing the events prior to the cd burner not working. What changed
was that I had copied a homemade DVD video of some livestock and burned a DVD
for the first time. I used the Nero software to do this project, and made 6
copies of the same project. All the copies of the project worked fine on
PC's but when I put it in my Denon DVD player, it did not work, and my Denon
has not worked since. Could be just a coencidence. when I copied the
original DVD the computer took a real long time to do this task. I think
that the Nero program copied/or overwrote a dll file or some other wmp file
that has affected the WMP's ability to function and thus unable to gather
memory to start the process of burning. The first time running Nero it
seemed like the buffering process took a 35 minute delay. All subsequent
burns, buffering is almost simultaneously done in the Nero program. The easy
fix is to reinstall the WMP and overwrite the files that have possible been
compromised. Hesitant because I do not want to lose data and then I would
have to rerip the past music from the original CD's. Looking for more input.
Seems that many users are having problems with WMP.

Chris-

To add some additional info - I've contacted HP but no reply yet.
Meanwhile, I've found that I can burn cd's using RealPlayer at 4x and 16x.
If I try to go any faster, I have the same issue in RealPlayer as I do in
WMP. Your comment earlier about the write speed in WMP being faster than you
set it may be a real issue.

Any help would be great. I've tried to get some info from HP's site, but
then I wasn't sure if I'd been dealing with a software or hardware issue. At
this point, I'm thinking about reinstalling an old CD burner I have (not
dvd). Right now I have a dvd/cd reader and a separate cd/dvd burner (that
replaced my old cd burner)... just not looking forward to opening up the
computer and messing with the hardware, especially since I have no idea if
that will take me back to being able to burn with WMP. It's a mystery to me
what changed in the past couple of months that caused this mess???

If you're able to get any info from HP, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,
Jackie

I tried more CD's, never could get one to burn in WMP. I then tried burning
a CD in Nero and it burned successfully, actually 9 in a row. Went back to
WMP and tried one and it did the exact same thing as before and failed to
write to the CD. I have tried several patches to WMP and none have worked.
I will try to send this message to the HP techs to see what they can tell me.

I am experiencing the EXACT SAME problem!! I have an hp840 dvd burner, and
everything has worked fine until the past month or so. All the songs are
prepared but then after 1, 2, or 3 songs are burned, the disc finalizes and I
get the message that vkjp is getting (below). I have uninstalled Sonic,
Nero, defragmented my hard drive, set the burn speed to the slowest setting,
disabled startup programs, turned off my firewall and virus protection,
uninstalled and reinstalled my burner and wmp 11 (reverted back to version 10
with no improvement), and have done a host of other things to simplify what
is on my computer. Still this problem continues. VKJP - what kind of burner
are you using?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I have the same thing happening. External HP dvd 940 usb writer. I burn
CD's for church. I have done over 150 CD's and worked every time. I got the
error message and did try another brand. No Change. Changed Speeds; it
wrote 1 out of 7 different CD's. Rebooted - no change. Defraged hard drive -
successful. Still no burn. Used the same CD 5 times and watched it prepare
the playlist. The message changes to pending, while the burn percentage
increases, then the WMP 11 program states that the CD is 99% burn while the
Ext USB burner has not lighted the green light and the cd is not turning.
The the message that the cd is bad or not compatable. Then ejects CD. WMP
always sees the cd and states the remaining time left on CD. Finally went
into options and Devices tab, checked allow video files to convert in the
background and audio files checked. Finally burned that same cd that I had
tried the previous 5 times. One other note, I had the burn speed set to the
slowest speed 3 of the 5 times and no result. On the last burn the speed was
slowest but when it burned, it burned with clock speed like it was set on the
fastest mode. I would like a tech to reply to this oddity.

have changed speeds, changed CDs but the message still perists.
