Re: Windows Media Player 11 changing the "date modified" of played files

IIRC this is volume leveling adding that missing data to the file. Should
be a one-time operation, you should be able to manually force using WMP's
Tools:Add to Library and checkin' that checkbox.

The subject about says it all. If I use WMP 11 to play any of my MP3s
the player will often times change the "modified date" of the file.
For a long time it seemed very hit or miss, but I think I finally
found the pattern tonight. If I drag songs into the Now Playing
window and let them play all the way through, they get updated.
What's weird, though, is if I skip ahead in the song or jump to the
next song, it doesn't happen... only when the song plays from
beginning to end without interruption. It's why, in my case tonight,
half of the songs in a folder have tonight's date on the files while
all of the others have the date they were ripped.

This really isn't a big deal, but I just happen to use MS's SyncToy to
keep my MP3s sync'd between two computers, so if I'm working on
something and WMP plays for a couple of hours, it updates the modified
date/time of the files, and now SyncToy thinks it needs to copy the
files across the network to the other PC. Needless to say, it's
completely unnecessary and getting VERY annoying.

Let me also say that anything remotely related to privacy, network,
etc. in the WMP options has been *unchecked*. There should be no
reason at all that the player should be pulling info from the
Internet, updating rights, etc., etc. It's all turned off, but
somehow these files that get played all the way through get a new
timestamp every time.

So what's up with that? Any ideas?
