WMP's View:Options:Formats file tab would have fixed this up.

Media Player Classic does kind of evil things to associations.

after installing "media player classic" (to watch streaming
protocols...) my mplayer2 suddenly won't play a movie
link from web pages, so I not able to "preview" it from
the beginning. instead it starts to download a clip
immediately. note: no problems with playback, no viruses, no broken
codecs. I would just like to have my
"preview" back. any advice is appreciated

solved (scanreg /restore)...
but i'd really like to know the trick...
maybe registry tweak...
