Re: Error with Windows Media Video 9 codec

What Neil said already.

===
go to Start -> Run, and
type in

regsvr32 wmv9vcm.dll
===

If that doesn't fix you up, then this likely wasn't the source of your
issues. This file is for *videos*, not audio.

So stepping back: what file type is affected? What *audio* codecs do those
files use?

OK, I checked last night and they've stopped including the v9 VCM at all,
so
that shouldn't be a problem any longer.

Hi Zach. It was CCCP 14, released in February. Both DLLs are version
9.0.1.369. Thanks.

I think that's just CCCP being boneheaded. What are the file versions

the two files? What precise version of CCCP did you install? I'm

CCCP
fixed up. =\

I don't believe WMV9VCM was ever part of a Windows OS distribution, so
it
shouldn't be affected by SFC.

I've been having trouble with some videos playing without sound. I
thought this was an audio codec problem, but I downloaded the
Sherlock
program and got this message:

Warning: The following codecs were found broken:

"Video Codecs:

1. Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 (C:\WINDOWS\system32\c:
\PROGRA~1\COMBIN~1\Filters\wmv9vcm.dll)"

This is clearly a mistake. There's a wmv9vcm.dll in C:\Windows
\system32 and a wmv9vcm.dll in c:\Program Files\Combined Community
Codec Pack\Filters, but, of course, there's no directory C:\WINDOWS
\system32\c:\PROGRA~1\COMBIN~1\Filters\.

Could this be a registry file issue? If not, what may be wrong?
Thanks.
