Guys, guys, guys, I want to use WMP. For 90% of everything I do, it works
very well and is reliable and doesn't do anything too intrusive.
But what the heck? Does anyone on your end use WMP for anything? There are
some fundamental usability issues here:
For instance, when I go to burn an Audio CD, I get a nice panel on the right
that shows me my list... but no other info. What is the key thing that is
missing? Freakin' length of playlist, that's what. What good is a playlist
if I can't get the play length? I have a 72 minute CD and I'd like to
fill-it up, thank you very much. No I need to use trial and error to see how
many songs I can fit, or do the math myself. God dammit this p&8687 me off.
Not even a right-click Properties on all files selected gives me the total
time.
Sit down, use the software, fix these issues. Please.
WMP does the main thing it is supposed to do - play Windows & a very
few other audio and video formats. Although a pain compared with some
other players, the types of files it can play can be extended by
downloading various codex files. The ability to burn, rip, library
classifications etc are extras. Since the WMP is free, it is somewhat
limited in these extras, as are some other free players such as Real
and QT. Some of the most easy to use and broad programs are
specialized pay programs. If you do something often, the price is
sometimes worth it to avoid the time wasted on using the basic
players. It is your call. I suggest that you download the free trial
version of Easy CD-DA creator from http://www.poikosoft.com/ . You
will have many days to try it before you decide if you want to buy it,
and it is easy to delete if you decide it is not worth the price to
you. It handles about 16 audio formats. It will rip into any of these
formats. It will convert file types at many compression settings
between any of the formats it supports. Then it will burn normal CDs,
mp3 CDs, and WMV CDs very easily, keep track of times, etc. There are
other good programs, some of which you might like better for what you
do. If you need to edit audio, you need a wave editor. I use GoldWave,
and I think it also has a free trial download. It does many things,
and it takes a bit of time to use, especially for doing more advanced
things. However you need only learn to do one thing at a time as you
need it.
