Hello
I have a question regarding playing video files in Windows Media Player
(version 11.0.6000.6324). The video files I am trying to play are created on
my digital camera, an Olympus Stylus 720 SW. I can upload the video files
from my computer, but I can't play the video files once they are on the
computer. The video files have an extension (.MOV) and Windows Media Player
can't recognize such an extension. When I attempt to play a video file from
the digital camera in Windows Media Player, a pop-up says a problem has been
encountered. The pop-up refers me to Windows Media Player Error Message Help
online. The website says "You've encountered error message C00D11B1 while
using Windows Media Player." I have searched the Windows Media Help pages
and I have attempted many things to fix my problem. Any help regarding my
video file problem would be extremely appreciated. Thanks a ton!

I am using a WMP 11 on the Windows XP OS. the .mov extension is used
for an Apple movie format. If you have a .mov file on your HD,
regardless of how it got there, if you have the Apple QT player, it
should play. Just right click the .mov file icon and select open. Then
select QT from the dropdown. If the movie will not play, the file for
it likely is corrupted. I have the WMP 11, WMP 6, QT, Real, and AVS
players on my computer, and a .mov file on the HD will play on all of
them. The WMP 11 may say that .mov is a type of file the WMP does not
use, but do you want to try to play it anyway. If you seletect to try,
the .mov plays. Sometimes a player capable of playing a file, such as
QT for .mov, must be installed for the other players to be able to
play the file. Sometimes you must download a special codec to play say
on the WMP. I have so many players that I do not recall if I ever
downloaded a codec for .mov for WMP, so I am not certain why .mov
plays on it after mild bitching. My suggestion is to download the free
Apple QT player first. It comes bundled with the iTunes player which
you can later delete if you don't want it. The download is large, so
if you happen to be on dialup allow plenty of time for download -
perhaps do it overnight. If your .mov file will not play on QT, likely
something is going on that gives a corrupted file when you load
the .mov to the HD from your camera. I do not know that camera and can
not help you with that. If the .mov plays on QT, see if it then will
play on WMP. If not, check back to see if anyone knows of a codec for
playing .mov on WMP.
