Okay, now I understand.

-You ripped the content using the MP3 codec at the highest bitrate.
-The ripped content plays just fine.
-You didn't set the burn transcode to downsample to 192kbps during a data
burn.
-Burning a data disc in iTunes at a very low burn speed works (I didn't know
iTunes could burn data discs so I checked, they call it "backup your
library"). Makes a complex disc but your MP3s are there.

Since you indicated that when you burn with iTunes at a normal you get the
same audio distortion issues, I'm beginning to think that maybe your drive is
starting to malfunction.

Do you have access to an external burner that you can plug into a USB 2.0
port and try burning there?

as for what you were confused about, i accidentally put 'burned' instead of
'ripped.' so just insert ripped in for burned and it should make sense.

the skipping could be a disc problem. because i have also burned cds with
iTunes, and when i do, it has all the songs on it, but it also skips. i was
using memorex cd-r's, but then i decided to try and use a different brand,
while also modifying the burn speed so it was 2x, not "fastest." it worked.
everything is seemless. however i tried to burn the same exact playlist with
the same exact options, i didnt change anything, and it skipped. that's a
mystery to me... there are no physical scratches on either brand's cd. what
do you make of this?

they skip badly, but when burned and played from the player, there arent any
skips in the song.

How can you play CDs that aren't burned? A CD is a shiny disc that goes
into the CD drive. If the disc isn't burned, it cannot be played so I really
have no idea what you're talking about in that sentence.

Also are you intending to burn as an Audio CD or as a Data CD? If it's an
Audio CD, then you're not going to be able to fit a lot of tracks. On
average you'll get 18 to 20 before the disc is full. When you look at the
disc in Explorer, you'll see "Track01.CDA" etc.

If you're using 192kbps MP3s and burning them as a data disc, you'll get
roughly 125 to 130 tracks on a disc before it's full. Also if it's a data
disc you should be able to re-insert that disc into the computer and then
navigate to it in Explorer and see a WPL playlist along with a Music folder
that contains Artist folders which each contain Album folders if you're using
a recent version of WMP, if it's an older version you'll see a list of MP3
songs and the WPL playlist. Open the WPL playlist in Notepad and you should
see all the tracks on the disc listed in that WPL.

You should also be able to play that burned CD of MP3s on your computer. If
the files are intact for playback from your hard drive on your computer, they
should be intact for playback off the CD on your computer. There is no magic
"error correction" code for ripped content during playback.

a disc. it says i can go up to 702 MB even though it is only a 700MB cd, and
there must be room for the text (song name, artist, etc).

i think that there is an auto correct-function on windows media player and
just about every other media player that takes out the scratches, i am
assuming, but when they are burned it takes the source file, not the file as
it sounds on the player itself, and burns that (un corrected). this is just
a hypothesis, however...
