I just looked at the bigpondmusic.com website and it says this at the bottom:
Minimum Requirements: Windows Media Player version 10.0 or above.
Where do you see it saying WMP 11 is required?

There was no error message number. The only message I recieve is the one.
stating that I need to download a security upgrade.

Upgrading to WMP 11 should retain any of your DRM licenses that were valid on
a previous version of WMP.
What was the error message number and what was the URL that came up from the
Web Help button on the error message? Having that information will help us
understand better the issue you're experiencing with WMP 11.

Yes I did see that. In my frustrations at 11 I rolled back to 10 and all the
music files played, so I drew the conclusion that the licenses weren't
corrupted. Is my logic correct?
I would keep using 10, only the website I download music from (bigpond
music) requires 11, so that is when I thought I would have another attempt at
getting 11 to work. Would the corruptions only affect 10 and not 11? or
should I just reset my DRM store?

Did you see the part that says "if that doesn't work...." that it's likely
your DRM license store is corrupted and so you should go to this weblink
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810422/en-us) and follow those instructions
to reset your DRM store?
There is the warning that following the steps at this site will require that
you re-acquire new DRM licences from the content store where you bought the
tracks.
Most Microsoft compatible DRM stores will allow the re-issuing of content
licenses for content that you purchased, you just have to log in and find the
part of their site that performs this functionality.

Hi Mike,
Thanks very much for the reply :-) On the technical support page under
Indiv Ver there is actually no version listed. It is the same for the DRM
Version. There is simply nothing listed. I put in the suggested fix as
instructed on your webpage but nothing happened and the tracks still don't
play. Forgive me if this next question sounds stupid, but did I only have to
type in the fix in the run bar and click OK? When it didnt work I thought I
might have had to go into another program? Is there anything I am missing.
Your help is greatly appreciated!!
Cheers
Greg

Hi,
I have upgraded from WMP 10 to 11. Since the upgrade any music files
downloaded won't play due to missing media usage rights. CD's play fine.
only downloads don't. I get the following message but no upgrades are
downloaded
"Windows Media Player cannot play the protected file because a security
upgrade is required. Do you want to download the security upgrade?"
Have tried numerous times to do upgrades, etc but system tells me WMP is
uptodate. What do I do?????
All download files are missing the media usage rights - no other error code.
I rolled back to 10 and everything works fine, but all downloads now seem to
require WMP11, plus it erks me that I can't have the latest version!! Has
anyone come across this before and solved it?? Thanks in advance (hopefully)
