Re: Problems with Media Player in Vista and DVD file playback

I realize I should clarify this statement:
"In the worst case you would need to reinstall Vista."
That's actually technically not true, since Windows generally assumes that
everything added to it was added for a good reason. If an uninstall or hand
uninstall doesn't work, it can be simplest in some cases to reformat.
Reinstalling Vista would generally only reinstall the Windows codec set, and
would not remove the damage done by third parties. =\

VCP stomps on the Vista decoders, doesn't it? You should be able to see
the state of your codec world by using WMP's Help:About:Technical Support
Information .
If they did stomp on WMP's decoders, if uninstalling them doesn't fix, you
can try a System Restore back to before you installed them.
Generally, it is absolutely unfathomably horrible to install a codec pack
as the system cannot easily recover what those do to it. In the worst
case you would need to reinstall Vista.
Note that reinstalling Windows Media Player would have ZERO effect upon
this issue, as the files you have touched are external to the Windows
Media Player file set.
You absolutely utterly cannot address or fix any codec issue (unless it is
a Windows Media codec) by reinstalling, deinstalling, or otherwise
modifying the player. Sorry. That's always been the case. =\

I am running Vista Ultimate and could previously playback DVD files (VOB)
in
Media Player.I recently installed the Vista codec pack and now cannot
play
back DVD file (but can still play back DVDs). I guess it's the codec pack
which is the problem, I've tried uninstalling it, but still have the same
problem.
Is there some way to clean install Media Player for Vista or to uninstall
and reinstall it ?
.
