The first time you go to a page that uses the OCX for playing content in the
browser, you get a prompt (typically a yellow bar across the top) to
"install" the OCX.

The thing is that the OCX is already installed, it's just not registered for
the web-browser. This is because the OCX is an ActiveX control and people
who are heavily security minded don't want ActiveX controls installed without
their permission.

This is a sensible stand, and so when you first get your system, the OCX
isn't registered with the browser.

It's very likely that you didn't give the the OCX permission to register,
and so it's been set as "blocked". To correct this, open the IE Options
dialog. (Tools -> Options). Click the Programs tab, then the Manage add-ons
button.

Find Windows Media Player in the list and set the status to Enabled. Now
close the dialogs and navigate to the webpage, does it work now?

Hans,

If you're talking about the Windows Media Player OCX to play video content
in Internet Explorer, it's on your system as it's part of the operating
system. What makes you think it's not there?
