I have now seen a few times that codec packs are bad for WMP 11 in Vista. I
think it is about time that Microsoft make a big issue of this and tell
people clearly that this will happen, especially when there is a Vista Codec
Pack floating around which seems to have done the same to my player and I
can't recover it. Please tell people clearly to not install either the
K-Lite codecs or the Vista Codec Pack. Having said this, there still does
seem to be a problem with WMP 11 in Vista not playing certain files which
WMP11 in XP would play

What specifically did you install? Codec packs are horrible and will hork
the player. You didn't need anything extra to play MPEG, and only needed
a
specific AVI codec if it was required by that file...

I have Vista Ultimate. WMP 11 keeps giving me this error when I try to
play
.mpg files or .avi files. Even certain .dream files (animated
wallpapers)
don't play anymore even though they used to. I have installed all the
required codecs to play these files but still not working. I noticed

happened after I installed VLC player. So I unistalled VLC player and

same problem. I even did a system restore. Someone know any fix for
this?
