Re: WMP-11 cuts of the first .5 seconds of mp3

I believe my sound card type is called RealTek "Hi-Definition Audio" - I
tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, and didn't work. I tried updating
the drivers for a bunch of my audio codecs and such (did this by poking
around in Computer Management --> Device Mgr) and even tried some of those
steps in that second URL link you gave (what's WaveOut btw?). Here are those
stats from my WMP Technial Support Information list, I copied-n-pasted 'em
below. Yes, I know I'm running Beta-2 version, and want to keep it that way.
Even when I was at WMP version 11, the FINAL version, it still had this odd
problem. WinAmp has been working just fine for me, but WMP still cuts off
the first .5 seconds of 40% of the mp3 and other audio files I play. I'd
give anything to figure out why this is happening. I bet it's because of
that RealTek driver - it's such a piece of crap, I wish I knew how to
uninstall all its features and still play sound. Anyway, I'm starting to
ramble, so here's the list:

If you go to WMP's Help:About:Technical Support Information menu dialog,
you'll get a nice list of data.
What sound card is this? If it happens for WMA too, it's not MP3 codec
interference.
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#dsound
is a potentially interesting set of steps... =\

hi, thanks for the reply! I've ended up switching over to WinAmp for my
default music-playing device, but would absolutely love to go back to
WMP-11
if I can figure out a way to fix these bugs. To answer your questions (1)
yes, it happens both when WMP is already open, and also when I'm just
double-clicking on mp3 files cold, and WMP opens for the first time. (2)
not
sure what you mean. This glitch only happens on the first mp3 in the
playlist, never any subsequent ones, if I've selected more than on3 to
play.
(3) I just tried this on a .wma file and yes - it actually happens with
those too! ack! (4) I'm not sure what you mean by the list WMP puts out
for
me....? Oh, also in case it helps - I've chosen the "9-series default"
skin
that I view in Compact Mode. Thanks again for trying to help - anything
you
can do to solve this would be a blessing!

Historically I'm only aware of ctmp3.acm causing issues here... ?
What's the list that WMP's Help:About:Technical Support Information puts
out
for you... ?

This has been annoying me for months. I bought a brand new Compaq
Presario,
running Windows XP and Windows Media Player verison 11. When I
double-click
on an mp3 and WMP opens it, the first 0.5 seconds of the track get cut
off.
This happens 40-50% of the time. If I open the mp3 in MusicMatch or
some
other program, the first beat comes in just fine. It's only Windows
Media
Player that does this - anyone else have this problem, or know how to
stop
it
from happening? I am literally so bugsh*t crazy about this, I will
offer
$5
via PayPal to the first person who can resolve this situation! If I
can't
figure out how to fix this, I'm uninstalling WMP-11 and just settling
for
MusicMatch *shudder* HELP!!!
