I am not sure if WMP is designed to play iso files. A normal DVD
uses .vob along with some shorter helper files. Shrink, if it is the
free program that I have in mind, is mainly designed to compress a DL
DVD files enough so that they can be burned to a single layer DVD. I
believe that it had limited ability to decrypt commercial DVDs at one
time, and still may. This is of course not legal in some countries.
Most of the free programs that can rip encrypted DVDs have not been
kept up to date and will not work properly on many newer DVDs. One of
the most popular ones from the UK had their site taken down and the
owner was ordered not to continue development and to turn in his
programs. I hear that one of the most used programs for ripping
encrypted DVDs is a pay one that comes from an island where this is
not illegal, although use of such a program may be highly illegal in
some countries. Such programs often have to be upgraded many times a
year to keep up with frequent changes made by the recording companies.

If you started with an unencrypted DVD( such as one you made or one of
a very few commercial ones that are not encrypted), it might be worth
while trying to play the iso file on another player. It would be
better to rip to normal .vob files, as these are more likely to play
on some players. Of course if your final objective is to record a
shrunk DL DVD on a single layer DVD, it might be best to do just that
rather than attempting to play the iso file on a player. Several
burning programs will burn iso files as well as vob files(of course
the iso files get converted to the normal vob structure along the
way). Both Real and AVS have free players for DVDs and might or might
not play yor iso files.
