Problems with version 9 and Win2K

I have version 9 of Windows Media Player installed on my computer using
theWindows 2000 operating system. Just recently I noticed that I can no
longer hear the audio in some multimedia content on the Internet,
specifically if I try to listen to samples of audio tracks I want to try
before I buy. An example would be from the site buymusic.com. Also, I
cannot hear the audio in some Internet video content even though I can see
the video itself. All of my audio settings appear to be OK, and I can hear
local audio files and video files using Media Player.
There is one other thing that I have noticed. I have a small voice recorder
that I use for note taking and interviewing. I can transfer the audio from
the recorder to my PC as WMA files and up until recently those files would
play at normal speed. Now when I try to play the files they play back at
twice the normal speed. Even though Media Player 9 has a speed control in
XP, the speed control is not available in Win2K.
I'm sure that I have been able to hear Internet audio content since
upgrading to Media Player 9, and I know that my voice recorder files played
back at normal speed, so could a recent update be causing these problems?
Is it possible to revert back to say, version 8? Is version 8 still
supported by Microsoft?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cal.
