Re: Rollback to 10 doesn't work!

Don't touch the WMP binary then - that doesn't seem relevant to your
concern. Your actual question is how to stop Windows Update from installing
Windows Media Player 11, isn't it? Updating that binary in any fashion
wouldn't seem to do anything interesting/useful to you, as the WMP files
themselves would be updated. You don't care about setup_wm.exe , really, as
far as I can tell.
It seems like you have Windows Update set to install everything always -
turn it off on that end- ignore the WMP11 update option.
I'm really confused. Please answer:
* What is the file version for c:\windows\system32\wmploc.dll ?
* What is the file version for c:\windows\system32\wmvcore.dll ?
Thanks,
-Zach

The original problem was that after I uninstalled everything from 11, I
would
get an automatic Windows update that would reinstall 11. I had no
choice -
it would automatically install 11 after I restarted my computer. 10 worked
fine until I restarted my computer, when 11 would automatically install
again. I wanted to know how to stop that from happening.
Just tell me how to replace the 10 setup.exe file with the 11 setup.exe
file
again. The version in that directory is 10.0.0.3802 - because that's what
you
told me to do - put the 10 setup file to replace the 11 setup file.

E is for Encoder - what are you referring to?
If you replaced the v11 setup_wm.exe with the v10 setup_wm.exe, then yes
it
will say it's v10 because it's going to be really really confused.
You cannot install WMP10 on top of a machine with either WMP11 or the
Windows Media Format 11 Runtime.
I apologize: based upon the data you've provided, I thought you meant
that
you had successfully uninstalled/rolled back everything *but* that file.
What are the versions of the files in c:\windows\$NTuninstallwmp11$ ? It
sounds like those are the wrong version.
You should probably go to Product Support at this point. If the System
Restore point that WMP created and the WMP uninstall aren't working, that
may require them to point you to a download for v10 files for
c:\windows\$NTUninstallwmp11$ -- I don't have those, sorry.

So, in add/remove programs, it was its WME 11, but when I go to
uninstall
it
says I'm uninstalling WME 10. I tried anyway but WME 11 is still there.
I
get
the same incompatible Windows when I try to istall WME 10. So now I
can't
uninstall 11 and can't install 10 so I'm stuck with 11.
Please help - this is getting so frustrating.

Wow... it said it was installing 10 but then it went right and
installed
11!
I will go uninstall 11 again then try tis again and let you know.

Open up the install package for v10 in WinZIP, extract out the
setup_wm.exe
..
Then copy that by hand to the c:\program files\windows media player
directory... does it stick? If so, you should have the right
version
now.

Sorry it took me so long to reply.
I do have Win Zip.
What do I do next? :)

That's not a file you would care about - that just makes
setup_wm.exe run
faster.
Do you have WinZIP or other ZIP utility? There's two ways to
walk
forward
with obtaining the 3802 setup_wm.exe given that you can't find it
in
your
temp directories - if you have a ZIP utility, it'll be slightly
slightly
easier.
