Re: WMP keeps crashing. Anyway I can reinstall WMP on Vista?

What's the current crash bucket information?
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket

It sounds like you've installed a bunch of third party code that wasn't
extensively tested. The fault bucket information should likely narrow down
what is causing Vista to crash here.

There's two versions of FFDShow: the old version that's broken and buggy,
and FFDShow Tryouts, a project that is still under development. The latter
is the better solution, but it's not really locked down to any final version
yet that I'm aware of. =\

I uninstalled the ffdshow package.
I also checked the folder where divx had been installed. there was an
uninstaller file there for the divx bundle. the control panel only listed
the
codec, whihc I though was the only thing I did install anyway. I launched
the
uninstaller and it uninstalled stuff. I then made sure the divx folder was
deleted.

rebooted.

WMP still crashes. :(

That crash very specifically identifies divxdec.ax . Is that file still
on
your system anywhere? Various horrible installers install it to all
sorts
of random locations, so uninstalling or reinstalling may have little
effect.
If it's still on your system, that would indicate that the uninstall
process
didn't work as expected.

A few days ago WMP started to crash after playing a few songs. It'd be
completely random songs. mp3 or wma audio.

After the crash the Windows Problem and Solution icon appears in the
system
tray. It informs me that it's a problem with DivX and recommend that I
download a newer version of DivX.

I found that odd since I was playing mostly mp3 file or wma audio
files.
However I downloaded latest version and tried again.

Still the same.

I have even uninstalled DivX, but WMP STILL crashes and blame it on
DivX.

What gives?

Is there any ways I can reinstall WMP on Vista? It used to work fine
up
until recently. And I can't figure out why.
