Hi, Neil,
I have now reinstalled DivX and that seems to have cured the problem - even
though they were mostly WMV files, not AVI. Nevertheless, thank you for your
time and trouble in responding to my plea for help. I have left "YES"
feedback for you.
Kind regards
Ken

We need to find out what's inside those files. I suspect they're all.
AVI video, so GSpot can tell us the 4CC of the video codec needed for
playback : http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
What happened when you updated the graphics card driver and installed
the DivX6 codec ?

Hi Niel,------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your suggestions.
I tried your interim solutions but some videos are still upside down and
reversed, whilst others (which I have not viewed for some time) are OK, but
jerky with acceleration turned down. When viewed using Nero, they are all
OK, but not of such good quality as with Media Player.
Is it possible that my video files have been corrupted and this just shows
with Media Player? Hope you can throw more light on this.

Since installing version 11 (over Version 9) videos, which displayed properly
before (and using other viewers) are now upside down and reversed.
I have tried uninstalling and deleting medium Player 11, then downloading
and re-installing it again - but to no avail.
Is there a fix for this problem?
Often it's a graphics card driver problem which is resoved with new
graphics card drivers from the manufacturers website.
In the interim, you should be able to go to media player menus, choose
More Options, Performance, Advanced button, then turn down video
acceleration or turn off overlays.
Some upside down videos may be as a result of using an older DivX
decoder (for DivX AVI files) which you can get from here
