Re: WMP and Vista / How can I reinstall it?

Supposedly this is a link for the Vista version. I haven't had any chance to
test it. I am still stuck at work. Maybe give it a shot.

also, I checked out the shortcut on my machine. It launches WMplayer.exe
with a switch command:

c:\program files\windows media player\wmplayer /prefetch:1

Try to goto the command prompt by typing CMD into the search bar after
clicking the start button.

At the command line, type: ( <enter> means hit the enter key)
c: <enter>
cd\ <enter>
cd progra*
cd windows med*
wmplayer

See if it launches that way.

Not too much of an idea yet. Does the Windows Media Player open on it's own
by launching it from the start menu?

I just scoured google for a possible solution for you. Most people are
re-installing the OS. Often Nero and Roxio have been known to break WMP11
during an install or uninstall.

I really don't know if there is much you can do other than use a different
player, which sucks cause WMP11 is pretty nice. If I see anything come up or
come across a way to use any command line swithces to repair I will re-post.

Thanks for helping me Chief

I just did, but it does not install. When I try, Windows Configuration
manager pops out and reads:

“There is a more recent version already installed. is not possible
to use an older installation package to install files or to repair”

The problem is that I cannot uninstall it either.

Any more ideas?

Thanks again,
Paul

Hi,

I'm running Vista Ultimate and WMP does not work anymore.
When I try to play an mp3 file nothing happens, WMP doesn't even
open.

How can I reinstall it?

Thanks in advance,
Paul
