Well I didn't find any issues. However my laptop's copy of WMP9 cannot play
that same DVD and guess what, VLC can play it there too.

Is there a paticular site to search for known issues? I have a number of
different collections or movies that WMP cannot play that VLC loads up
without issue.
The Real player will play DVDs, and it is a free download. I suggest
you try it for your problem DVDs. Real can easily be removed at add/
remove programs if you decide not to keep it. If both it and the VLC
player work on them, that will be fairly good evidence that the
problem lies in the WMP - likely because it does not have as powerful
error correction math as the VLC and Real player. It is also possible
that your drive is borderline in reading the disc, and one with just a
few read errors is just enough to cause the error correction math for
the WMP to fail. There are programs for checking read errors for a
drive. Some are included in Roxio and Nero media suites. There may be
free ones, but I have not searched for them.
