This doesn't work for me.
I have Windows MCE 2005 installed and all updated. Windows Media Player 11.
I have a Samsung sh-s182d DVD/CD writer.
I have no burning software installed other than ImgBurn which doesn't run
until you actually run it and when you quit, it's out of memory.
I've made sure my writer has a RECORD tab in properties and it's enabled to
record.
Explorer sees the drive as writable. Media Center sees the drive as
writable. ImgBurn sees the drive as writable. WinAmp sees the drive as
writable. I've written CD's and DVD's from both Winamp and ImgBurn.
Windows Media Player 11 just gives me the "Connect burner and restart
player" message no matter what I do.
I've watched the IMPI CD-Burning COM service. It's in manual mode. When I
start WMP 11 and click on BURN, it starts the service. I then see the error
message. If I quit WMP 11, the service shuts down.
I'm at my wits end with this. Isn't there an official fix for this?

I was having an identical problem, and followed the link provided by George.
Gee. Iam happy to say that IT WORKED! I had to enable IMAPI service and I
amback in business. My machine was a new install of XP and I had no other CD
burning software installed. After reconfiguring the service I was able to
add Sonic and IT STILL WORKS!
Thanks George...

I am missing something here.
I have a brand new clean install of Vista (yesterday) without ANY other
Burning software loaded, and I have the same problem. Media Player 11 does
not see my Burner. This is same PC Hardware burned DVD's the day before
with
XP Pro and Nero, so that also cannot be a factor.
Any other solutions anyone?

I have a totally clean install of Vista with no other Burning software
loaded, and I have this same symptom with a known good hardware setup
which
worked fine on my previous OS with Nero etc.
You have identified 4 different CD burning applications on your PC:
Nero
Roxio,
Creative,
MusicMatch
Roxio is most likely the culprit and has caused burning problems a lot in
WMP. I have seen some posts of burning problems in WMP caused
potentially
by Nero. Like I said, try uninstalling the software one at a time.
Start
with Roxio.
Any other possible solutions anyone?

When I click on the burn tab in wmp 11 the icon in the top right
hand
corner
comes up and says 'connect a burner and restart the player'. I have
a
dvd/cd
burner attached already that works with every other program I have
(eg
Roxio,
Creative, Musicmatch etc). In tthe devices tab in options the dvd
burner
shows up ok. ANy ideas why I can't burn?
