Fred, ITunes is Great! I have always been an IBM computer type. I bought
an IPod and use ITunes to load it. Apple definitely has products that are
very, very user friendly. Within two hours, I had my music, photos,
calendar, address book, and 75 videos in Itunes, all arranges in playlists,
Etc. The sound quality in both ITunes and Ipod are outstanding-one cannot
tell the difference between a CD and the Ipod when run through my home
stereo system. Video quality is as good as a DVD, even when played on a big
screen TV. Others who own Apple computers have always told me how easy the
Apple system is. Itunes is definitely worth looking into.
Best,
Fred Dwight

Hello,
I would just like to know why did microsoft change everything in wmp11
in
a
bad way and why can't we do everything we could in wmp10?
Now that I have Windows vista I can'T use wmp10 (or can I?).
I always loooved how easy it was with wmp10.
To convince people there was a reason to move to WMP 11, it had to be
different from previous versions. It seems to me that the overriding
goal
was "different" and not "better".
We have been told by a former senior member of the Windows Media Player
product team that the overriding goal of Windows Media Player 11 user
interface design was simplification. Clearly, they failed miserably at
this.
I think that the overriding goal was to make Windows Media Player
attractive
to the masses in order to encourage surrender to the new DRM features in
Windows Media Player and to the adware and marketing features of Windows
Media Player. That's why it is filled with eye-candy and very little
functionality. Most serious users are already using Windows and will
object
to the DRM features of Windows Media Player 11 and are not likely
customers
anyway. It is the inexperienced masses that the Windows Media Player
product team targeted with WMP 11.
Now,
1) Ican't see the list of all the artists in the left pane, you have to
always go back from watching one artist's albums to the artists list.
2) Same for Genre, I used to have such an easy time changing genres
after
ripping cds, now, its like noone thaught someone would want to do that.
Is
there another way to change the genre of one or multiple songs ???? I
can
only change one genre and drag it to another. I don't want to have to
type
the genre for everysong this is stupid.
The most accepted way for viewing hierarchical data in Windows has long
been
the TreeView. Part of the "different" in Windows Media Player 11 was to
remove the TreeView and replace it with a ListView. This really sucks
because it means you can not view one artist or one album in the context
of
its peers. It is a usability nightmare. If you are searching for a
particular track from an artist within a dozen albums for that artist,
you
have to double-click the first album, scan the list of tracks and, if you
don't find it, click back, click the second album, and repeat. That is a
lot more work than the TreeView was where you clicked one album, scanned,
clicked the next album, scanned, and so on. And no, the Search function
doesn't solve this function; maybe you don't remember the name of the
track
and you're looking through the tracks to get your memory triggered.
3) There is no way to select multiple songs using the mouse. Before,
you
only had to position your mouse next to the title, click, hold and move
down
to the last song you want selected and that was it. Now, the software
always
think I wanna move the song I was aligned to to somewhere (even if
there's
a
no-no sign all the time).
(I actually found a way around that now but, that's exactly my point
why
do
I have to find ways around????? It's supposed to be easy and natural as
it
was with wmp10)
Hmmmm. Don't know about this one. And what's your work around?
4)What's wrong with the Now playing list? Why is it on the left in the
Library? Why is not called Now playing list on the right anymore but
Untitled
playlist?
And why can't I decide like before that I only want to add the song I
double
clicked to be added into the now playing list? That was the most
natural,
simple, easy, fun and practical thing in wmp10.. Why did they remove
it?
Did
they lose the source code for that and forgot how to do it? It's
ridiculous.
They removed many useful features for seemingly arbitrary reasons. I
think
that the UI designers for WMP were either very inexperienced or they were
working very hard to meet their masters' requirements to make WMP
different
without regard to quality.
5) What's with the desing under vista? I like the general design of the
OS
but in WMP11, there's this big pale and tranparent playing bar at the
bottom
the just ruins it. And therefore, the information (Time and title) at
the
bottom is way less readable and easy on the eyes than before. It's
small
and
has poor contrast.
I am surprised that you didn't comment on the fact that you can't see the
number of tracks, total time, and total file size of your tracks for your
entire library or your working playlist.
Now, I can make my peace with the 5th point, but all the others, it
just
makes wmp11 completely "retarted" towards every media player made in
last
5
years.
So, if anyone can either give me solutions for the problems stated
above,
give me a backdoor way to getting to use wmp10 on Viste premium or just
give
me a appointment with the WMP11 project manager or something because I
can't
believe the disaster it is.
Fat chance. There is no way to communicate your feelings to the Windows
Media Player product team. They have built high walls and defenses
between
themselves and their customers so they can deny and avoid any backlash to
the poor quality and usability of Windows Media Player 11.
I know that "I don't have to use it if I don't like it, but it's just
that
I'm so mad that the player I loved so much before has become a
catastrophe
to
use.
Also, if there's been a lot of threads like this one before (which
wouldn't
surprise me), I apologize but you can refer them to me if they provide
answers.
There are no answers. The Windows Media Player product team completely
refuses to communicate or participate with the community of users (their
customers) of Windows Media Player.
Thank you.
Frederik
I guess I didn't use it long enough to realize that they don't show as
much
information (number of tracks, total time, total size) as before. When I
come
to think of it, I was just so frustrated that I couldn't get it to
function
the way I so naturally did before that I didn't even listen to any music.
It
just ruined it.
Thanks for sharing the pain though, it really helps.
And also, is Microsoft the only company without a
complaint/comment/suggestion/criticism department we can write to? Do they
even care about what their customers think of their software? Who are they
doing for? Uncle Billy? It's no wonder they did so wrong with wmp11, they
get
no feedback. Are they so afraid of bad criticism? Or do they completely
not
care about it?
Anyways, I think I'll just have to change and adapt to another software.
Itunes any good?
Frederik
