Re: File name and Media name different

What are you expecting to see changed in Windows Media Player by changing the file name? While it is not exactly clear, it appears that what you really want to do is to edit the track information in Advanced Tag Editor.

There is no functionality in Windows Media Player to extract the track name from the file name. It usually goes the opposite way: you can configure Windows Media Player to rename the file according to the track name.

The main reason I can think of why Windows Media Player might (and should) work the way it does in that regard is that there are a lot of characters that might go in a track name that cannot be included in a file name because of limitations of the file system. For instance, the question mark character, slash characters of either direction, and many others have special meanings to the file system and cannot be included in the file name but very often get included in the track name. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want my track name in the library or tag to be limited in the way that the file name would be limited.

Hello, this is a fairly simple problem but I cant seem to find an answer.
When I change the name of a file, the media player still shows the old name
EVEN if i remove the file and readd it to the media library. I assume this is
due to copyright, licensing, or how the person ripped the media file. Is
there a way to make it so that the media name changes when I change the file
name - I dont want to go through and change them individually...I have
thousands of files. Any setting or program or anything would be
helpful...thank you very much. And by the way, I am using WMP version 11.
