Re: Re-written Track Information In Media Player 11 of XP Service Pack

You're in a Microsoft Windows Media Player, or WMP, newsgroup, not a WinAmp newsgroup. WinAmp is at http://www.winamp.com.

Can you confirm which product your question pertains to?

I have several thousand 45RPM records converted to MP3s via previous versions
of WinAmp. Now (to my disgust!) I find that there is no mechanism (easily
locatable, at least) for making changes to the IDV# fields, just as "Hard
Rocking..." as stated.

I use the older comments field for the 45RPM record label number, and the V2
comments for information about chart position, 'flip' side title and true
running time of the song. With this method I am able to display 'Comments'
(the old, original version being displayed) and then sort on record label.
Since at my age (approaching MediCare) my memory slips at times, this allows
me to correct my entries for the recording dates ... most important for the
non-Top 40 tunes I loved, where there is no published resource for such
information. (I have it in my head to develop such a resource for
publication, ala the Joel Whitburn BillBoard books.)

I am tempted to see what I can do about backing out the Version 11 of
WinAmp, and returning to the version that worked so very well for what I
wanted to do! I just played about a dozen obscure non-Top 40 tunes, and only
two of them had anything displayed back to me other than the information I
know that I supplied as I converted the tunes to MP3 ... Artist and song
Title. Incidentally, most of the CDs do NOT have the correct (label) title
of songs, listing "How Glad I Am" instead of "(You Dont Know) How Glad I Am"
for the song by Nancy Wilson. It is bad enough that it is not possible to
use a filename of "Who Do You Love?", because the '?' character is reserved
... the ability to edit the IDV2 information at least allowed the proper
title internally. So how may I (under WinAmp V11) enter the information I
desire, in the place I desire it to be?

I have been converting CDA files , from cds, into MP3 files using Windows
Explorer of My Computer in Windows XP, Service Pack 2. After converting the
file to MP3 format, I edit the MP3 ID Tags using "edit audio tags" found
under "My Computer" to correct mistakes, and to convert the album name to the
year of the song and the track to it's associated top forty listing from
Billboard. I then upload the MP3 files, along with the updated ID Tag
information, to an MP3 player. At this point, every thing is fine. Starting
with Media Player 10 and continuing through 11, the system will reset the ID
Tags of the MP3 files it finds on disk if I copy more tracks from the
original cd I had copied songs from previously (I don't seem to get the
problem if I use another cd that was not a copy of the original). I turned
off all updating in Media Player, and, if I hide the files onto another disk,
like an MP3 player, the problem does not manifest itself. For example, I
converted, Hound Dog by Elvis Presley into an MP3 file. The original CD was
"Artist of the Centruy and the track was 10. I edited the MP3 ID tag to Album
Name "1956 Top Forty, Track No. 1. File saved fine. Later, (can be weeks
later), I copied another song from "Artist of the Century" cd. When I go back
to look at the tags for "Hound Dog" in the file located on the hard disk, the
ID tags revert back to the original information and I would need to reinput
on the ID Tag data or get it back from the MP3 player. I have never heard of
an auto-update of files without some intervention on my part. Can you shed
some light on this?
