I'm unclear if anyone with windows media player 11 that has NOT installed a
third-party codec can hear mono sound files like the videos onwww.cnn.com
Does anyone have know other people that can test this. People without the
sound issue don't typically participate in threads like this. I'm unclear
about how wide spread the issue is of what the common characteristics are.

Shouldn't there be a way to identify the specificproblemcodec rather than
installing a whole new set of third-party codecs? How can we get the
"official"codecs? Does everyone on WMP 11 have this issue or only a few?

Since upgrading from Windows Media Player 9 to 11, I am not able to play
streamingmusicsamples fromAmazonor from Barns and Noble. Other
downloadedmusicplays.

When I click on asamplea small Windows Media Player window comes up,
It will say Connecting to Media, and name the themusicthats trying to
play.
The slider moves to the right about an inch, then goes back to start. From
then on nothing happens. Clicking on the arrow does not start anything.


Amazonsays it works on their computer, and theproblemmust be with myWMP.


I have tried the samples without success with:
the Windows firewall turned off
with and without proxy server on


I have -
Windows Media Player is version 11.0.5721.5145
Operating System Windows XP
Internet Explorer - latest version
I am connecting to the internet through Earthlink high speed DSL


I have been trying to hear thissamplefromAmazon-

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

I have had this problem for the last few days.. I could not play
Kellie Peckler on Amazon. However, I could play Justine Timberlake!
I have WMP 11 installed. I finally down-loaded all codecs for
Windows
Media Player from K-LITECODEC.COM. You can find also find the K-LITE
Codecs install from other sites by doing a Google Search for K-lite.
I downloaded the Full Codec version 2.85 from this site.

I did not modify any settings. This program detected a previous
install of AC3Filter, which it suggested I uninstall to avoid
conflicts (which I did). After installing K-Lite, WMP11 can now
play
all music samples on amazon!
