Re: Windows Vista Windows Media Player

I also have this problem. It appears that this may be related to Dell
machines. I have a XPS M1710 laptop with 2GB of ram, and this problem occurs
precisely 20 seconds before the end of each song, and is repeatable virtually
every time. I have seen other posts, and the victims appear to own Dell
machines. I don't buy the claim that it is sound-driver or sound card
related, as I do not have the problem if I use WinAmp or MediaMonkey to play
my songs, and the problem only occurs at the very end of the song. They rip
just fine, but there is that slight skipping at the 20-second mark at the end
of each song. If I stream my library to my Xbox 360, everything is also fine.

I even tried the Zune software (WMP 11 with a different skin?) and the exact
same thing happens.

The sound card is a SigMatel Stac 92XX, and has the latest drivers from
Dell's support site.

What exact sound card are you using?

Speaking for myself only.
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

Your not alone - I have the same problem with my new Dell Dimension 9200
preinstalled with vista. If I find out how to fix the problem I will post
it
back here.

I performed a clean install of Windows Vista on my work laptop.
I added about 100 songs to the laptop and then added them to the WMP
library.

Description of the issue:
When listening to a song, the song skips once or twice RIGHT before
transitioning to the next song...usually with 2-3 seconds left on the
song...for EVERY SONG.

These are the same songs from my home computer and they work fine in both
Windows Media Player for XP on my home machine and flawlessly in iTunes
because the latest version of iTunes makes the transistion from song to
song
without a pause.

This is VERY frustrating and annoying.
I'm doing everything possible to avoid installing iTunes at work but this
is
rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The laptop is a Dell D620 and is about 6 months old.
It has 2gigs of RAM.

HELP HELP!!!
