Re: Windows Media Player won't play *.mpg or *.mpeg Format - C00D11CD

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

KLite is stupid horrible software. Don't ever use that. Remove mmswitch.ax
from your system if it installed that horribleness. =(

It sounds that either:
* your video card driver is busted, which
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#vdriver
would fix you up for, or
* you have a 3rd party MPEG codec installed, which would stomp over the
non-reinstallable Microsoft MPEG codec
Did you install any MPEG/MPEG2/DVD decoders about that time?

Hi all,

I really need some help with my Microsoft Windows Media Player. I
will apologize ahead of time if someone has already posted or answered
this question before. But I do want to say that I've done my
research and did as much as I could to resolve my own problem. Here
are my specs:

OS: Win 2K
WMP: 9.00
OLD WMP in folder: 6.4
DivX Codec: Version 6.5.1
DivX Player: Version 6.4.2
DirectX: 9.0c

My issue is that I cannot play any *.mpg or *.mpeg extension at all.
This situation has happened recently on my computer. My files used to
work before using WMP 9.0 for those formats. Anytime I try to open
these extension files, I get a "Windows Media Player has encountered
an unknown error." When I click on "Web Help", it says "You've
encountered error message C00D11CD while using Windows Media Player.
Additional information is not currently available for this error."

I have checked many forums, read many FAQs, and read many support
group. I have tried many things. I have reinstalled WMP 9.0 (not
version 10 or 11 as they aren't supported for Win2K... beside the
mpeg's work with Version 9 before so why upgrade) twice. I have
installed the codecs for WMP by themselves (WM9Codecs9x.exe). I have
reinstalled my DirectX (dxwebsetup.exe). I unchecked the File Type
association with mpgs under the WMP options on and off. I have
download the latest divX codecs and players several times (it seems
like I've done it a zillion times). I restart my computer each
time. I turned off my anti virus. I have no major programs running
in the background. I don't believe i have any virus or spywares of
any type. I even try opening these file using the OLD Windows Media
player, and the SAME things HAPPENS.

Here is the kick though ==> ASF, AVI, and WMV are the few video
extension files that Windows Media Player will play NO PROBLEM. DivX
plays No problem!. IF I CHANGE THE EXTENSION from *.mpg (or *.mpeg)
to *.wmv, the Windows Media Player WILL WORK!!!!! THEN, when I change
it back from *.wmv to *.mpg, the error message will OCCUR again.

Another FUN FACT: Quicktime 7.1 will play these extensions FINE. But
Real Player Won't!! Winamp won't play *.mpg either but it will play
*.avi and *.wmv. Also I installed these codecs from http://www.free-
codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm. It work using their
software, it still doesn't work under WMP 9. I installed a generic
DVD player software, and it works! But WMP 9.0 still doesn't want to
play it.

One clue that has helped a bit is my video splitter software, it says
"There are no Codecs for this video Format" when I try to open *.mpg
or *.mpeg file. This video software splitter goes further to say in
its FAQ: "QUESTION: When I open a video file, I got an error info
"Fail in initializing the file!", Why? ANSWER: It is because of there
is not CODEC for this video file in your system. Normally, if your
Window Media Player can play it , our video software supports this
video file too. If your Window Media Player can't play it, you should
install more CODEC to your system."

Fact is: I believe my codecs are fine but MAY BE NOT. Anyway I hope I
have given enough information for someone to help with this damn
C00D11CD error!!!

PLEASE SOMEONE with lots of TECHNICAL background, HELP ME!!!

Thanks ahead....
