Have you tried turning off your firewall?

I have the exact same problem, I can not acquire any licence , it says that
it is "an unknown error caused by another source which does not report back
to WMP which error it is " - in other words : I have no idea what this means
! WMP is suppose to connect to the license server from where I bought the
music file and then get a license , that is all it's suppose to do but it
doesn't.
Re. backing up licenses : I can't back anything up or restore anything since
it has never even required the license in the first place.
I tried solving the problem myself by downloading the file again at a
different place+computer, here it worked fine (?!?!??), it actually required
the license and could play the file. Then I made backups of the licenses and
emailed them to my home computer, backed them up (restored them so to speak)
and tried again. This time it went past the "requiring license" status but in
the end it still can not play the file and the same error message comes up.
I wrote to the companys help desk and explained my dilemma and all he said
was that I should make sure that "automated license requests" should be on
(WHICH they are!) and also to make sure if any firewall doesn't block the
access , he gave me a url I could add to the firewalls safe-list , but I
don't need that , since I can't do anything like that. I use sygate firewall
and if anything from the outside SHOULD promt me, I would get a message. but
nothing does promt me and I can't configure anything or add anything since
sygate doesn't have an URL type safe-list. Maybe he was referring to the
built-in windows xp firewall , but I do not use it , it is turned OFF.
So I can't do anything --- useless musicfile and wasted money --- i hope
someone can post a solution or something. It seems it is a common problem,
now I've read several post on various boards about this problem , but no
solution and the companys wont help, it's like a can of worms nobody wants to
touch. And noone tells anybody about how fragile this whole drm/license thing
is and how you can end up with useless files. I will never buy online music
again, first and last time, it was a waste of money :(
Win xp pro , wmp 10.00.00.4036 , error message C00D11CD (UNKNOW ERROR)
