OK, first off, I have WMP 11 (Version 5.1.2600) and WinXP Home SP2.
Now, on to my problem. I've been running WMP11 since it's original Beta
release, and never had a single problem until now. For some reason, it has
started using an unreasonable amount of system RAM. Playing MP3s, WMP would
normally fluctuate between 45 and 65 MBs of RAM. Now, it runs fine for the
first 5-10 minutes, and then starts lagging very badly. I checked my Task
Manager and found out that WMP was using upwards of 225MBs of RAM, which is
literally half of my total. I can't see any reason for it to have started
doing this. I tried re-downloading and installing it again, only to have the
same problem. Any ideas would be gratefully accepted, and thanks in advance.
I noticed the same issue on my Vista/WMP 11 PC last weekend but haven't had
the opportunity to fully investigate. I suspect it may be related to the
last round of Vista patches that occurred about that time. If it is patch
related, there will hopefully be a patch to the patch soon.
Well I don't have Vista, so I doubt that that would be the reason (I have XP
Home SP2). Also, I have automatic updates disabled, because I prefer to
peruse and install only the updates I choose.
As for the media tags, perhaps I'm remembering the tag names wrong. But
Oh...one other question while I have your attention. Is there any way to
get WMP11 to read IDv2 tags instead of IDv3? With WMP10 you could choose,
but with 11 you can't, at least not that I can find. Thanks again.
I assume you are trying to get WMP 11 to read ID3V2.2 and ID3V2.3. There is
no such thing as ID3V3.
How were you able to make a choice related to that in WMP 10? I have never
found any such setting. To the best of my knowledge, WMP 10 always saves
ID3V2.3 but it reads ID3V2.2 tags, such as those from iTunes, just fine.
By the way, ID3V2.2, the version used by iTunes, is obsolete and
unsupported. I suggest sticking with ID3V2.3 wherever possible. Review
http://www.id3.org for more information. The only currently supported tags
are ID3V2.3 and ID3V2.4. ID3V1.0 and ID3V1.1 are not being updated but have
not been specifically obsoleted like ID3V2.2 has been.
either way, there WAS a choice in under Tools>Options>Library (I think that
was the tab) to choose which tag version you want to use. Whichever tag
version that WMP11 uses is annoying as hell. I can't sort music by artist
anymore, as there isn't an 'Artist' column to choose. I'm stuck with an
Album Art column that makes my library load oh-so-slowly. On top of that,
90% of my MP3s are ripped from my own CDs and don't HAVE any album art.
Now, whichever tag version this is, I don't want it. I don't use iTunes, as
it screwed up my media library and arbitrarily started copying and converting
my MP3s to AAC, which I also don't want. I found that out the hard way when
my HDD suddenly decided it was full. iTunes had copied and converted 15GBs
of music into its media library for no reason. WMP10 DID have a choice. If
at all possible I'd like to avoid rolling back to WMP10, but if I can't
change my tag options then I'm going to have to.
