Re: Find album information?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Isn't the lookup based on a unique ID for each CD? I'd rather get "Not found" than information that is for another CD.

The Microsoft/AMG database is notoriously incorrect in many instances. You'd have to speak to the Windows Media Player product team about that - oh wait... you can't.

Even though, in my own experience, the Microsoft/AMG database is the most inaccurate, the next best alternative, Gracenote's CDDB (www.gracenote.com) is still ridden with errors. The only online database that I have not found any errors in so far, but I have also not used nearly as much as Gracenote or Microsoft/AMG, is FreeDB (www.freedb.org). Unfortunately, you can't choose which database to use in most software applications and definitely not in Windows Media Player. While I doubt they would build it in if it were practical, it really isn't practical anyway due to differences in the implementation of each database.

And why does the online database contain the incorrect information for my CD?

Find Album Info is for when you have the CD in and are going to rip it. Once you've ripped the CD, the appropriate verb is Update. Update and Find both access the same database and will return the same results.

Your only option will be to use the original CD information on the case to update your track info in the library or in Advanced Tag Editor.

My problem:

WMP 11 have created incorrect Ttiles / Artist for all the tracks on a CD in my library. How can I get this corrected (using information from the Internet)?

From WMP 11 help:

"Click the Library tab, right-click a file, and then click Find Album Info. The Player connects to the Internet and displays the Find Album Information dialog box."

I can't find the "Find Album Info" when I right click on this album. I can only find "Update Album Info" and that gets down incorrect information for this CD.

How can I get this corrected (using information from the Internet)?

Olav
