I am not sure I understand your question clearly. It appears that you want
the player to open with the specified playlist but minimized to toolbar as
mini-player. Is that not what's happening? If you want to player to just
minimize and not switch to mini-player mode, you need to disable the
mini-player from Toolbars menu from Windows taskbar. Also, if the player
switches to mini-player mode, then it will not show up in running apps list.
You need to restore it from mini-player mode first.

When I start WMP 11 with a playlist in the shortcut and the shortcut set
to
minimized the playlist starts playing, but the media player never shows
up.
It cannot be found in the list of running apps, but you can see it in the
task manager. Why?
I want the media player to start playing the playlist (I would rather I
did
not have to specify one as in WMP 9) minimised to the toolbar as a
mini-player. But currently I have to start it as a normal player and then
minimise.
