ONCE AGAIN, can anyone confirm FOR SURE whether you need an MP3 player
that features "secure WMA" in order to play WMA files that were
copyrighted by WMP after being ripped from CD (not purchased online).
I'm not looking for guesses, and I'm definitely NOT looking for people
to stand on their bully pulpit and tell me how great MP3's are or to
throw out my CD's or recopy my music or any totally unhelpful crap
like that. Thank you.

Throw out all your protected WMA files and rip them to MP3! That is
absolutely ludicrous that WMP would let you restrict your own use of your
own files.
That way, you can get an MP3 player and not a WMA player. They're not the
same thing at all. While one may play the other, they won't necessarily
play the other. Go with MP3 and keep DRM out of your legitimate music
collection.

I'm deciding on whether to get an MP3 player that plays regular WMA
files or one that plays "secure WMA" files.
Besides regular no-locked WMA files, I have a lot of WMA files that are
locked (can't be burned to cd), which were created from ripping CDs
through WMP with the "copyright" option left on (default), which added
copyright protection to the WMA files. (None of my WMA files were
purcahsed online).
Question is: will these locked WMA files transfer and play to any MP3
player that plays WMA files, or will they do so on a player that plays
"secure WMA" or will they simply not transfer or play at all on an mp3
player that has both WMA and secure WMA?
.
