I cannot speak for or represent Microsoft.
I cannot speak for or represent Windows Media Player.
I cannot speak for or represent the staff.
I have a large variety of interesting technical information, and it needs to
end there.

Was there something in my question that is not relevant?
I provided you The relevant answer, actually.
It would be utterly inappropriate for me to establish any level of
obligation for myself or any other member of any part of Microsoft. I
deeply apologize: I will never be able to commit to that. It's horrifying
that people would think of the abonimable newsgroups as a great place to
send feedback. They really aren't. They can be useful for brief periods of
time (betas...) but are not tremendously useful over time.
There are teams dedicated to algorithms for mining data out of online
communities - that may make them useful, but ... newsgroups are sandbox tech
support: effort made today is washed away tomorrow as people don't read the
old work. "QnA" has many of the same problems, but is more tailored towards
this arena. We'll see what other new technologies spring forward.
I would like to know if it is possible for Windows Media Player issues
deemed significant, by what ever Microsoft employee views them in a
newsgroup, to get to the product team for consideration. That is on
topic.
Not recommended, and generally an absolutely utterly horrible method that
would be unlikely to result in anything happening any sooner than the Next
Major Windows Version, if ever.
It looks to me like you're still picking a fight, Zach.
I don't understand that comment. I respectfully apologize if I somehow
offended you with my response, which was an attempt to show the official
guidance on this question that I operate under.
My question was definitely on topic to WMP and, expecting a positive
reply from you, I was going to quietly accept my victory on that point and
eliminate the editorial section of my replies to other posters' questions.
Sorry - I'm not qualified to override the general governing policy as
regards the newsgroups. Please stop trying to get that to happen: it's
never going to. It's simply not possible for me to do that, and I'm not
going to lie or misrepresent myself or Microsoft in order to appease
someone. There would be no integrity in that. =\
I think you think we're at cross-purposes, which has never been the case.
It's in my personal interest to have the greatest WMP possible, because ...
I like media. That's why I worked there for ten years. I have no
particular ties to Microsoft or anything else, just have consistently felt
that WMP offered the greatest opportunity for me to help improve the
multimedia space in my small way. I think you want more or less the same
thing - Better! - so ... sure, we're on the same page.
And it would be utterly counterproductive to have the newsgroups be product
support. They are a non-sticky non-retentive medium.
And, since I have never been the one looking for the personal fight, I am
still willing to drop the editorializing about feedback if the answer to
my question is positive.
I'm sorry, I am not qualified to override the general governing policies of
the newsgroups.
It's a free country: you do what you need to do. I think you're doing a
disservice to a lot of cool and interesting people, that you would actually
like if you ever met, based upon your misinterpretation of all sorts of
issues, but ... dissonance is another part of what makes the world go round.
I am incapable of giving you the answer you want, given that it would
clearly contradict the governing policies of the newsgroups. If people want
to do whatever they want to do, great, but I'm not going to speak for anyone
else, I'm not going to sign up for the newsgroups.......
Please stop. If there is something you want or need from me, you should
clearly have my contact information by now. The newsgroups are a
ridiculously horrible communication forum.

Does this mean that significant issues identified in the newsgroups can
possibly find their way to the product team going forward? If so, that
is fantastic!
