Re: share not working

Go into START/RUN and type services.msc . Then make sure that:

'HTTP'
'SSDP'
'Universal Plug and Play Host'

are all set to MANUAL. If they're not, then double click to change them.
Then right click all 3 and set them to START . That fixed my "Error 1068: The
dependency service or group failed to start."

This link has all the info I needed and then some:

You will have to sift through it but there were fixes to things that I
didn't need that you might need.

When i go to the bottom of services.msc, i see windows media player network
sharing-service. My starttype is automatic and my status is stop. I have done
everything that you said but when i go back to services.msc i can not start
windows media player network sharing-service. I get "Error 1068: The
dependency service or group failed to start."

I have been looking futher up in the list of services.msc and saw the
following which might have something to do with it:

Net.Tcp port sharing service
network DDE
network DDE DSDM
SSDP discovery-service
routing and remote access

They are all off. Is this the same with you? Can you check for me please?

It worked after I did this:

"Shut off the 360. Go to start, run, then type services.msc. When
that
pops up go to the bottom and pick windows media network sharing and stop
that. Close the window. Go to my computer then go to tools at the top and
folder options. From there hit the view tab and select the show hidden files
and folders and about 2 spaces under that is something about hiding system
files. Un-check both of these. When you click the second one it will ask
you if you are sure and say yes. Then get out of that and go to c drive,
docs and settings, all users, then under that there should be the DRM folder.
In that folder delete everything. After that go back to the tools folder
options view thing and put back the two checks that you took off. Go back to
servies.msc and start back up the windows media sharing thing. Then turn
back on your 360 and it should work."

When I was done with that, there was a large white box with the xbox 360
icon under the "Share My Media" check box. It had to do with the 'hidden' DRM
folder being deleted. After that it was fine

Hi ackthpt,

How did you get your Share My Media" box fixed, because it still isn't
working for me. I don't have the settings button

I was able to get the "Share My Media" box fixed but my computer hasn't
recognized the 360 yet. I was able to get windows media sharing working again
under "services". I followed this:

"Shut off the 360. Go to start, run, then type services.msc. When that
pops up go to the bottom and pick windows media network sharing and stop
NOTE: It is your system and your responsibility for using this information.
Be careful with what you do if you are unfamiliar with these instructions.

See if any of you are having this problem too.
Pull up Services. Goto Start>>>Run>>>type "services.msc"
Scroll down to Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.
Under Status, there is nothing listed. Under Startup Type, "Manual" is listed.
Right click Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service>>>click Start.
I get "Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."
I can't find too much on this, see if any of you can. There is 1 post in the
newsgroups but no reply. This is probably tied into the problem with the
Share My Media box just hanging there.

Yep, Exactly the same here.

Warning! Do not try to contact Microsoft Helpline, they will not have a clue
what you are talking about, I spent 45 mins trying to explain what the
problem was.............

Neil,
Speaking for me I don't have Windows Live Onecare. I'm using Windows firewall.

The ports are configured correctly. Even if they weren't it should still let
me check the box, I mean I can't even check the box to "share my media" with
the 360 or any devices. It just hangs there for 20-30 seconds and nothing. I
have to cancel to even get out of it. The problem lies with the media player
11, not the 360. The 360 dosen't pick up my computer because the "file
sharing hasn't been allowed" and I can't check it off.

that is something to do with it? its extremely frustrating because there is

does anything...

any assistance would be greatly appreciated...
