Rob, I too have been unsuccessful with installing WMP 11. My problem, I
believe, is that I have WinXP Plus! installed on my system with Windows
Digital Media edition causing a conflict. In any case, my attempts to
uninstall WMP11 resulted in the situation you are experiencing.
The only way I could go back to WMP10 is to use System Restore (Start, Run,
"msconfig", Launch System Restore), and select the time/date prior to
installing WMP11. This resolved my issue by making WMP10 functional again. I
am stuck with WMP10, but this is better than nothing I suppose. I have not
been able to find a cure as to how to successfully upgrade the program. Good
luck.

I've just tried installing Windows Media Player 11, which I downloaded
from
the microsoft web site, and it fails to install. My OS is Windows XP (SP2
build 2600)
Attempting to install it fails and the Web Help page gives the following
error:
Original Error Code Original Error Message
80070005 General access denied error
I've tried rolling back to my previous version of Windows Media Player
(v10)
by following the instruction on your web site. This told me to, first,
'Remove'
Windows Media Player 11, which went OK, then 'Remove' Windows Media Format
11 Runtime which, although the Software Update wizard said it was
successful
the program was still there.
What I would actually like is to install Windows Media Player
successfully.
Can you help, please?
