Thanks for that, but I've decided to make the switch to Foobar2000 and VLC as
I really don't lke the fact that WMP11 is adding album art despite the fact I
told it not to (and there's no solution). Foobar is very impressive,
although it will take a lot of setting up I think it will be well worth it.

Select all the tracks you want to modify, then right click in the Content.
Provider column for one of the selected tracks and choose Edit. Watch out
for the jumping textbox - it will move most of the way to the left,
completely out of position. When the textbox quits jumping around, no matter
that it is no longer in the right column (this is an identified bug that
Microsoft is ignoring) then just enter anything you want in there. Your name
for instance. When you hit enter, the value will be applied to all of the
tracks you had selected.
But it won't matter. WMP will still replace your album art. There's
nothing that has been identified that will prevent WMP from replacing it.

Thanks for that, are there any instructions on how to to modify the content
provider column? as it's blank when I look at it, and my google-fu is failing
on this one.

Windows Media Player 11 installed on Windows XP. I've unticked all the
privacy options and told it not to retrieve additional information from
the
internet. When it opens I tell my firewall to not allow it to connect to
the
internet.
Yet, when I choose a folder of random MP3s and play a selection it's
trying
to retrieve album art, doing so for one mp3 and then writing system files
called 'folder.jpg' and 'smallalbumart.jpg' into the folder and displaying
an
image at the bottom of the player, against all files, despite the fact
that
the image only applies to one mp3. I don't want it to create these files
in
the folder at all, how do I prevent this, as I find the fact it's doing
this
rather worrying.
