Re: WMP 11 - Breaks the Record

Yes agreed on the free part. I tried to cover myself by saying 'as long as
you have a legit copy of the OS', but you are right, you did pay.

Overall we are in agreement on the message!

Have a great holiday.

You're absolutely right. WMP 11 does play music for most people and it does
install properly for most people.

For the OP and those who have problems with it, it usually caused by
incompatibilities with specific hardware or third-party software like the
OP's PocketPC. So, you have a new media player, get new hardware. Don't
expect your new software to work with your old hardware. And, for the OP,
if you search this newsgroup, you'll find that others have had the same
problem with their PocketPC and have solved it by simply disconnecting the
Pocket PC while starting WMP.

My only disagreement with you, Mark, is that WMP is not free. You paid for
it when you paid for Windows. As ruled by the U.S. Justice Department, WMP
is an integral part of the operating system and the operating system will
not run without WMP - unless you live in the EU where, as the result of some
unknown force, perhaps an unidentified electro-magnetic atmospheric
phenomenon, Windows runs just fine without WMP. :)

Not my experience at all. I currently have a post elsewhere here regarding
the sharing components of the new WM11, but the issues you describe are
not
things I regularly encounter.

If the WinXP installation is truly 'clean' (you dont really know unless we
know all the hardware you are trying to run with the OS, we already know
that
you are running at least one WM11 unsupported device) I would be suspect
of
either my network connection and/or my hard drive performance. I listen to
the majority of my music in WM11 either streamed or from another machine
on
my home network and I dont think I have ever had the delays you describe.

The comment regarding 'it just does not play music at all' is hard to help
with, mine doesnt play music either unless I press play.

And finally, no software is without issues. Last I checked WM11 is free if
you have a legitimate copy of the OS - if you dont like how it does for
you
what it does you can try another. There are many options.

After years of reliable updates, WMP 11 is the buggiest release ever.

On a clean installation of Win XP Pro, this software has issues.

Working through a playlist, the player finishes a song and just stops.
Clicking play results at best in a looooog delay before play begins, or
simply fails to start playing, period.

Frequently, it just does not play music at all.

Every startup of the player results in a modal dialog warning that my
Windows Pocket PC device is not supported, and the dialog prevents
anything
at all from happening until I dismiss it.

Whoever is signed off on this release ought to be sent back to a job
they're
capable of.

The product should be held until reliable basic functionality can be
delivered.
