Scotteh is right. The player is probably modyfying the metadata of
your music files when they are played. This behavior is normal for
WMP. You should also be careful of the following settings in
Options>library "rename music files using..." and "rearrange music in
rip music folder..." these settings can yield dramatically unexpected
results.

Of course. It's updating the metadata. Play counts, ratings, etc. Every good
media player is doing this for you. If you do not like that, simply mark the
files as read-only.

It is no surprise if you sort by 'date modified', is it?

How about sorting it by 'date created'? Right click the list header in
Explorer and et volià...

I recently got sick of winamp screwing up my task bar and started using
media player to play mp3 files. But now I just noticed something odd.
When I sort the directory by reverse file date, all of the songs I have
listened to recently come up first! Even files I created years ago
suddenly have a date stamp of today after I play them.

So apparently Media player is actually modifying all my files when I
play them. Does anyone know what it is doing to them? This is rather
alarming. A player isnt supposed to be modifying the files!

Thanks

Scott
