Unanswered relative details regarding what a user needs to do to recover
and
re-use lost data from an upgrade.
Answered. Reset v11 *RTM* lib. Kill reg value. Run process.
If the steps don't work, then the old library was limping along and hiding a
pre-existing corruption.
Could someone comment in sufficient detail as to list which files names
are
to be copied (after rolling back and recovering them), but just as
important,
list the details regarding how one is supposed to re-introduce the files
into
the upgraded WMP11).
Not applicable. Files still present, not touched by WMP upgrade. Follow
steps advised.
I know the inital string was ref. beta & WMP11, but surely there's more
people upgrading from 10 to 11, and needing this infomation before they
are
forced to roll back and ferret this out later. Besides, I guessing the
same
files are plugged back having gone from beta or 10 to 11.
Same thing for v10, v9, v11 beta, whatever. Kill the v11 RTM library
(360.wmdb), kill the reg value, run wmdbexport or reinstall WMP11. In some
cases you may also want to rename/reset the wmdbexport.xml file present in
the Media Player library directory, since that will necessitate a reimport
from v.x. Note that that will require a v11 player reinstall, though, and
not just the wmdbexport trick.

The string is short but those details.

Beta 1 or Beta 2? In your c:\windows\wmsetup.log should be several
references to wmdbexport.exe - what are those lines? They may contain
slightly more data.
You could reset your v11 *RTM* library--
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary
, I believe reset the "MigratedXML" registry (should be located under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences ) to 0, and
then rerun either wmdbexport.exe or reinstall WMP11. If it was really
possible for WMP to do anything with the library, that should likely
work.
It's possible your old library may have been corrupt, though, which would
render it non-migratable. =\

WMP 11 Beta initialized an automatic upgrade to WMP 11 today. I went
ahead
with it. However, it wiped out all the custom tags I had stored, all my
album
art, the play counts, and everything else. Is there any way to restore
this
information?
