The taskbar player is the taskbar player. The 'mini player' mode is the
Compact skin mode for the player. This does not affect the taskbar /
deskband player.

OK, well the discrepancy between the checkbox label and the Help/menu text
doesn't assist.


I renamed my sample wav.wav file at \\SDFSDFSF\content\testbed to
"voicemail.wav", and that popped the player down from full mode to mini
player mode fine. It also worked for the sub strings ".wav" and ".wma".
I believe it may not work if you have the player maximized or something
odd for that.

Basically it's a feature meant for for voicemail users. You can extend it
somewhat if you really like the Compact mode, but ...

I understand the purpose (from the buried Help article), although since it
cannot tell whether a file is voicemail or just a random piece of music, it
should work for any sub string. It doesn't, and I've tried on MP3, WMA and
WAV. If there are additional limitations then they're not documented in the
Help article. I've tried with the player open & minimized, open as a
half-screen window, open & maximized, closed, but nothing works.

I have tried various strings here like "02" or even complete file-names
(not track names) and the only effect this option seems to have is that
the main window has a little hiccough where it looks like it is going to
resize to mini-player and then doesn't.

The program's Help file is not much use at all here. If you click Help on
the dialog it opens at a point in the Help file that doesn't mention this
option. I found the topic somewhere else in the file, but it uses
different text to the UI: "compact mode" rather than "mini player".
Either way, it doesn't work.

I've tried with mini-player enabled and disabled on the taskbar, opening
files from within the library and from within the shell. Nothing but the
little hiccough.
To always play files in compact mode
You can choose to play files that have a consistent file name in compact
mode. This is useful, for example, if your company routes voice mail
messages to your e-mail program. Note that if the Player is already
running when you play the file, the Player will remain in its current
display mode.

1.. Click the arrow below the Now Playing tab, and then click More
Options.

2.. On the Player tab, select the Start in compact mode for file names
that contain this text check box.

3.. In the text box, type all or part of the file name that you want to
play in compact mode.

If the playback of a song or video was interrupted by listening to
another media item, such as a voicemail recording, press CTRL+B to resume
playback of the original item.
