You have to have WMP9 if you're running XP, really. =)

Could you clarify what you're doing and at what exact point it fails on you?

Everytime i try to install ver 10 i get this error: setup_wm.exe

error 0xc0000034. I do not have media player 9 either. I'm running windows
xp
home edition. Any advice?
