Dear all:
Setup:
Win2k svc pack 4 plus all windows updates.
Windows Media Player 9 Version 9.00.00.3349
Nvidia Geforce 6200
DirectX 9.0c
We changed graphics cards from Creative Annihilator 2 Blaster
to Nvidia Geforce 6200.
now we only get "Connecting"
when trying to play known good local mpeg files.
we removed the Creative video driver and apps forcibly
from the registry via regedit, because the new video card
was inserted without removing the old creative drivers first.
-oops.
All registry entries relative to "Creative" were all deleted.
we downloaded the latest Nvidia Geforce 6200 drivers from Nvidia's
site and intalled exactly per their instructions. We checked that
DirectX 9.0C was installed and ran all the tests and they all pass.
when we invoke a mpeg file, media player comes up,
then says "Connecting". It's hung. we hit ctrl-alt-del
and select task manger, then it starts playing the video
with sound and everything.
we have removed and reinstalled the Geforce drivers.
we have removed, reinstalled, and reupdated(from windows update)
windows media player 9.
We have NOT removed or reinstalled directX 9.0c.
we have enabled windows media player for all types.
we are in full mode. we have the window around the media player.
we have it set to download codecs daily (since its a fresh install).
media player hangs when we try to open an internet mpeg or a local mpeg,
either way. it will only say "Connecting", like its lost.
Hitting ctrl-alt-del and selecting task mgr brings it back.
we know it associates mpeg with media player correctly.
we know it invoked media player.
we don't know why it hangs with "Connecting" and wont play.
there is no proxy server, and this problem occurs on both
local files on the hard drive, and internet files.
all firewalls, antivirus and antispyware were disabled as far as I know.
Its seems windows cant get the file to media player until after its
interrupted with the task manger.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
James Long
