Thanks Neil, I will look at this option.

You should be quite happily able to start and stop VLC using a batch
file. Since it comes from the Unix world, it has lots of command line
options - in fact the player is mostly a GUI skin over the inner
working so windows users feel comfortable ;-)

Most applications can be written to fire off a pre-written batch file,
or you could use wscript to do the same thing.

Hi Neil,
the camera is LevelOne WCS-2060. I can watch its video RTSP stream with
QuickTime. I need to monitor the video with WMP embedded in my application. I
asked about that in another thread and got answer from you to restream it
with VLC.

Another feature I need to implement is to save videosequences from that
stream to harddrive. I understand that VLC can do that but I probably cannot
cotrol begin and end of recording from another program, do I ?

Jan

Hi,
is there any plugin/filter for WMP which would save live video stream to
hard drive ? I need to record particular sequences from a surveillance IP
camera. Any other solution suggested ?

Depends on which "mystery IP camera" this is. I'd start by determining
the IP address, and trying to get VideoLAN to connect to it for
playback, often using RTSP though it could be a range of other ways to
connect : http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Once you can see the stream in VLC, you can enable options to save the
stream to disk in a range of formats, rather than viewing it live.
Those settings can also be saved as a recording profile which you can
use to restart VLC rather than having to set em up each time.

Now you'll need to read the documentation :
http://www.videolan.org/doc/streaming-howto/en/ch06.html
