Interesting.
Sky always works, CNN never on my office PC and only sometimes on my home
PC. Usually the first video you choose does not work but the next
automatically selected one does.
It's unbelievable that so many people have the same problem and no-one has
found a fix yet!!

Hey Joel,
I'm in the same boat and I also can't find any support for this. I found a
14 page dialogue of users at gamespot, many of whom have the same issues
we
have. Some had success with the folder change or other suggestions. Most
didn't. If you haven't seen the dialogue the site is:
http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=24293609&page=10
Maybe someone suggested something that might work for you, but didn't work
for me.
Out of curiousity, if you log into your computer as a different user, do
you
still have problems streaming? I've found only my account has the
problems. I
also notice only my account has some WPM 10 files and dll's mixed in with
my
version 9 that should be running. Installing 10 and then rolling back
didn't
help me. I think the mixed versions might be the issue, but if you can
stream
with a different user account and you don't have mixed versions, maybe
it's
something else. At this point, I'm just trying to rule out things that
aren't
the problem:P
If you do find a fix, please post. I'll do the same if I'm successful.
If it makes you feel any better, I can't play the files at sky news or CNN
that you provided a link to. Same results, 'ready' and 00:00.

Thanks for the reply Daz.
My problem is that with CNN the stream will not play at all no audio or
video.
The counter at the top of the pop up streaming window does not even show
the
length of the clip, stays at 00:00 for a few seconds and then goes and
tries
to play the next one.
There are so many people with the same problem it's amazing that no-one
has
found a fix!

Joel,
I had the same problem.
I don't know if it will work for you but give it a go anyway.
I was trying 2 x different streams, one would work and the other
mute...i
could tell it was playing in the background . .
OPEN > TOOLS > OPTIONS > DEVICES > SPEAKERS
Ensure your sound card is listed. Mine said Use default soundcard.
I changed it to my Sound blaster Applied changed. restarted WMP and it
worked.
NOTE ** I have 2 x sound cards.
one onboard and the other I have since purchased.
Let me know how it goes..

Myself and many others have reported problems to do with streaming and
WMP.
I have tried all of the suggestions mentioned by RE Fernandez to do
with
emptying the temp. folders, changing network settings etc. I have
tried
wmp
10 and wmp 11. Same problems.
for example
I can play streaming content from Sky news e.g..
http://news.sky.com/skynews/video/videoplayer/0,,31200-toddler_water,00.html
but cant from CNN news e.g..
http://www.cnn.com/video/player/player.html?url=/video/showbiz/2006/08/02/von.gibson.cell.phone.video.tmz
both make use of WMP.
With CNN, the video window pops up, it says that it is about to play
the
stream but it never loads and after a few seconds it then tries to
play
the
next one in the list.
I removed WMP11 and the system defaulted back to WMP10, I ticked WMP
in
the
add/remove section to enable the icon to appear on the desktop.
I have a similar setup on my home and PC and most times the CNN video
does
play although from time to time I also have trouble there.
Both systems are XP Pro with ADSL connectivity to the web.
I am now at my wits end!
PLEASE can someone in the know try and work out why we are having this
selective problem with WMP?
Joel
