one in mpg and the other avi

AVI is a container, so it can quite reasonably contain MPEG content.
MPEG *may* be a container or an actual codec, it's confusing innit ;-)

other mpgs and avis play fine
this has happened before with the avi

Does it help to do the 30 day free trial of the NVidia Decoder ?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html

That could be the quickest way to find out what's up.

actual files not online

I think what confused me wasy you said they were - ">after viewing
some files online,"

and i reformatted not too long ago, installed the basic media viewers

That's probably it. MPEG decoders aren't provided by default with WMP
because of license issues (actually MS would have to pay to use them,
and as it's a free player they'd be throwing money away ;-)

It sounds like you have a Trial Version of something like a DVD / MPEG
decoder which has expired (eg Elecard). Do these mystery online files
names end in ".mpg" ?

after viewing some files online, I can no longer view all of some video

files. The files used to play for like 15 minutes, now only play 1
minute long or so. When it ends, audio continues, but the video stops,
returns in fast-motion for a little bit, then gets choppy, back and
forth. Funny thing is, it has happened before. I found a fix online (I
think something about deleting a registry key or codec setting etc) and

I just cannot find it anymore whatsoever. I put version 11 like (11)
because it may not have anything to do with the version, since the same

exact thing occurred with previous versions. The files will not play
longer than the minute cut in other players as well (DivX, Real,
Quicktime, etc). I have 2 files that won't play, one is an mpg and the
other avi. Where is this fix message!!?!
