*laugh* So out of WinAMP, RealPlayer, QuickTime, WMP6, WMP11, and iTunes:
only iTunes shows AIFF metadata. So: not a really big scenario. But I've
added a tagged file for reference, at the least. Thanks for the pointer.
As re: mpeg4 tagging right, I don't believe WMP 'natively' supports tags
for any file types it doesn't support out of the box. You can use something
like WMPTSE for added file types. =)

You wouldn't happen to have 'cleared' sample AIFF with metadata, would
you?
I try to have a little library of useful content, and I don't seem to
have
metadata-ized AIFF in *my* stash. I have AVI, WAV, and MIDI with
metadata,
but no AIFF. =)

The easiest way to do this is to use iTunes (Mac or Windows it does not
matter). You can either convert an existing track to AIFF (iTunes will
normally leave your previous e.g. MP3 file intact). You can then view the
metadata in iTunes and fill in as appropriate (if you are converting in
iTunes it will convert the metadata as well, if you are ripping a CD track
directly it will look up metadata from the Gracenote CDDB.
iTunes will not let you add embedded artwork to WAV files.
I have not looked myself for a standalone tag editor for Windows that will
cope with AIFF files but MP3 Rage (for Mac OS X) see
http://www.chaoticsoftware.com/ProductPages/MP3Rage.html can read these
tags, even the embedded artwork that iTunes adds!
Hopefully once you have a sample tagged AIFF file you might be able to
encourage the WMP team to support it.
Note: While we are on the topic, WMP also does not support m4a (MPEG4)
tags
as used by AAC tracks. In this case however there is a third-party plugin
called WMPTSE which adds limited support to WMP. Again you can create a
sample AAC file using iTunes.
