Re: Media Player 10 plays but won't rip music

If it's not capturing any sound, then the analog audio wire may not be
hooked up-

Yeah, that sounds like your CD drive isn't working very well overall. I
might try drive diagnostic tools and see if that indicates any problems --
this is sounding like something to take up the drive provider.

I tried the analog option. It does allow me to record the music (albeit
much
more slowly). However, when I try to play it, no sound comes out. This
after I've changed both recording and playback to analog. It appears to
be
playing (time of recording shown, bar moving across the bottom of the
screen), just no sound.

Interestingly enough, the songs I tried to record digitally will play and
provide sound. But they have no recording time, and the bar at the bottom
of
the screen does not move while they are playing. I think it's missing the
very last information for each song, which would give it the track
information, I think.

Thanks for your response. Any other ideas?

If you switch to use Analog ripping instead of Digital ripping for that
drive under WMP's Tools:Options:Devices menu, does that help?

I recently bought a Dell desktop with XP professional installed.
Everything
works fine, but Media Player 10 will not rip CDs to the hard drive.
Media
player works fine playing CDs, and the CD-R/DVD+- drive works fine on
all
software and playing DSVDs (haven't needed to burn one yet).

When I attempt to rip a song (or songs) from a CD, media player 10
starts
normally and begins the rip. However, when it reaches 99% of the rip
for
the
first song, it hangs up, occasionally accessing the hard drive (about
once
every 10 to 20 seconds, but a short access and no regular pattern to
it).
It
will hang up like this indefinitely - I've seen 5 + minutes with no
change.
When I cancel the rip, media player stops responding and I have to use
task
manager to close it.

Another computer I have with Media player 9 rips the same CDs fine. Is
there a fix or patch for this? I've downloaded the latest Windows
Security
patches as of 5/11/06.

Thanks.
