I get the following error message when I try to listen to a short clip with a
.wax extension, at first it says:
"The selected file has an extension that is not recognized by Windows Media
Player, but the Player may still be able to play it. Because the extension is
unknown by the Player, you should be sure that the file comes from a
trustworthy source.
Do you want the Player to try to play the file?"

If I say 'yes', I then get this error message:
" Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is
typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location,
or the computer where the file is stored is offline."

This is a ringtone I am trying to preview, I've already contacted live chat
help on their site and they've tested it twice and there are no problems on
their end. My Media Player is version 10 and says it supports wax files? My
Operating system is XP. Sorry for the long post, this is driving me INSANE
and I greatly appreciate ANY help, thanks!!!!

It does, though 'wax' is a playlist not an actual video / audio file
as such. You could rename it to end in .asx instead, as that's the
usual file extension for playlists (or .wsx if it's really a wsx
playlist)

The key is to look inside the file using Notepad, and see what the URL
of the media file is (it's inside a <REF> tag, in the href="yadda"
bit)

Knowing the real media type of the file listed in the href="yadda"
part of the WSX file would help to propose a fix.
