Re: Media Player - Web Interface?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Not as efficient as a web interface would be though...

I don't see it as particularly efficient - you mean sending smaller
amounts of data to create the page than sending screen image
compressed over the network ?

Yes, basically. If I had effectively a 'remote control' for media player in
a web browser I could just click on my favourites and control all of my
music playback from a single page, wirelessly, from any PC / laptop in my
house - even over the internet if I really wanted (can't think of a use for
that at the moment, but sure something will come to me :-)). The remote
control / RDP method works, but you need to establish a connection, log on,
launch media player and then operate everything over a sluggish connection.

Naah no interrest mate (and I'm a web developer LOL) it's too much
trouble and would have pretty much no takeup - all that mucking about
with COM objects, firewall issues, slow media library handling - yuck!
There are several remote control interfaces available (Vinyl for
Pocket PC for example) but nothing I can think of that people have
ever asked for like web browser controls - and I've been hanging out
here for 4 years now hehe

I'm really surprised - fair do's though. I mean, it doesn't *have* to be in
a web browser - a fat client app. of some description would do the job
equally well if such things exist. Doing it through a web browser just
seemed like a logical option. I'm sure someone somewhere out there would
love to develop a nice Flash front end for media player that could run in
any browser.

This is fairly bespoke (I think) - but if someone developed something like
this for media player it would make multi-room media control a doddle. You
could effectively use a wireless CE device or even a mobile phone as a
remote control for every bit of digital media in your house!

Come on - get coding!!! ;-)
